DTF Print File Set Up And Export
Document Transparency
Transparency in a graphics program is usually displayed as a white and grey chequer board pattern in the background, The chequer board pattern does not print it is simply a an indication of transparency.
PLEASE NOTE: Documents without a transparent background would print with a solid white fill across the entire page, images without transparent backgrounds will be rejected for print.
Exporting
Export To PNG
PNG is a great format for DTF print files containing pixel data, as by default it supports transparency and uses no compression, while “ignoring” the transparency element when saving, reducing the overall file size.
Depending on the graphics program you use please check for transparency in the export file.
PLEASE NOTE: 8-bit PNG files use a reduced colour palette that is NOT SUITABLE for DTF printing
Export To PDF
PDF files are a great cross platform file format supporting both pixel and vector data in a range of colour profiles. When saving PDF files for DTF printing, please observe the following parameters:
- Convert fonts to curves/outline
- Uncheck include layers
- Set unsupported properties rasterised dpi above 300dpi
PLEASE NOTE: Documents without a transparent background would print with a solid white fill across the entire page, images without transparent backgrounds will be rejected for print.

On all other colours a white background is automatically applied to enhance colour vibrancy.
Because a white backing is applied to all graphics images containing opacity between 1% and 99% will be output with a 100% white background, as such opacity in the image should be avoided. 0% opacity (totally transparent) will have no background and as expected, will not print.
