DTF Print File Set Up And Export

File Setup Templates

DTF print files should be a maximum size of 550mm x 1000mm @300dpi and require a a transparent background. Our preferred colour space is RGB

Creating A New File

Set new document dimensions to 550mm x 1000mm @300dpi using an RGB colour profile, CMYK files are accepted but will be converted. Pixel or vector graphics are acceptable.

The pixel dimensions of a new document are:
6496 x 11811 pixels

Setting Up Transparency

When setting up a document for DTF printing it is important to make sure that transparency is set for the background.

Once the document is created in a graphics program you can confirm transparency with the chequer board effect background of small grey and white squares.

Document Transparency

Transparency in a graphics program is usually displayed as a white and grey chequer board pattern in the background, The chequer board pattern does not print it is simply a an indication of transparency.

PLEASE NOTE: Documents without a transparent background would print with a solid white fill across the entire page, images without transparent backgrounds will be rejected for print.

Exporting

Export To PNG

PNG is a great format for DTF print files containing pixel data, as by default it supports transparency and uses no compression, while “ignoring” the transparency element when saving, reducing the overall file size.

Depending on the graphics program you use please check for transparency in the export file.

PLEASE NOTE: 8-bit PNG files use a reduced colour palette that is NOT SUITABLE for DTF printing

Export To PDF

PDF files are a great cross platform file format supporting both pixel and vector data in a range of colour profiles. When saving PDF files for DTF printing, please observe the following parameters:

  1. Convert fonts to curves/outline
  2. Uncheck include layers
  3. Set unsupported properties rasterised dpi above 300dpi

PLEASE NOTE: Documents without a transparent background would print with a solid white fill across the entire page, images without transparent backgrounds will be rejected for print.

DTF Print FAQ's

Print size 550mm x 1000mm 300dpi RGB or CMYK?

6496 pixels x 11811 pixels

Transparent background

PNG 24 or PDF

Elements of a design that are required to be printed white should be filled object with the following values…

RGB
Red:255 Blue:255 Green:255

CMYK
Cyan:0% Magenta:0% Yellow:0% Black:0%

HEX
#FFFFFF

On all other colours a white background is automatically applied to enhance colour vibrancy.

Because a white backing is applied to all graphics images containing opacity between 1% and 99% will be output with a 100% white background, as such opacity in the image should be avoided. 0% opacity (totally transparent) will have no background and as expected, will not print.
